Whether you’re on the beautiful South Coast or anywhere else, one of the key elements of a property is the window coverings. It doesn’t matter if it’s in your own home, a rental property or a commercial premises, the right blinds or shutters can improve the look of the place, provide insulation, add value and give a personal touch.
The number-one tip for finding the best blinds or shutters to meet your requirements is to know what’s out there. At South Coast Furnishings in Cowes (Phillip Island), we can show you options in a wide range of colours and styles, as well as sharing photos of blind and shutter installations we’ve done in the past that may spark ideas.
For those who are new to this subject, who may never have had to choose their own window coverings before, some of the main types of blinds and shutters (all of which are available through South Coast Furnishings) are as follows.
Panel Blinds
When you’re after privacy, insulation and a distinctive style, consider panel blinds. While they tend to be more expensive and don’t necessarily work for every room, there are situations where panel blinds are absolutely perfect.
Roller Blinds
Often named as the safest blinds for rental properties due to their durability, roller blinds are low maintenance, while still scoring highly in the areas of light control, privacy, insulation and relative cost. Plus, there are plenty of stylish varieties.
Roman Blinds
When you want something that bit different, roman blinds could be the answer. While a little harder to clean, they combine statement-making looks with good light control and good insulation.
Venetian Blinds
Arguably more suited to your own home than a rental property due to possible damage to the operating mechanism or blades, venetian blinds are all-round winners. They’re attractive, give precise control over room light and are affordable, too. Oh, and if you’re after a premium option, the timber variety looks even better.
Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds share with venetian blinds the qualities of looking good, giving plenty of light control and not costing the earth. In a choice between the two, it really comes down to the room in question, e.g. maybe there is a glass sliding door, in which case you might prefer a vertical blind. Again, possibly not optimum for rental properties.
Plantation Shutters
While the initial cost may be higher, plantation shutters are a long-lasting window covering that will never go out of fashion. They are excellent in the insulation department as well as for light control, and are bound to add value to the building.
